sisters

Five sisters.

One Cambridge visit.

A lifetime of memories.

My sister Joy is visiting me in Cambridge this week, and being together brought me right back to the house where we grew up—with six of us under one roof.

That story is in the very first chapter of Radiant, because so much of who we become begins with the people who know us first. My sisters taught me about friendship, resilience, competition, laughter, and always having someone in your corner.

We spent the day eating, talking, laughing—and visiting Harvard Yard.

The irony? I never went to Harvard! I came to Boston to train and work and eventually became a professor and dean at Harvard Medical School. Now, as a professor emerita, it was especially meaningful to stand there with my sister and reflect on the long journey.

Our careers may shape our lives, but the people who walk with us along the way are what endure.

That, too, is part of Radiant.
