TARBELL
Nancy J. Tarbell, MD, FASTRO is the C.C. Wang Professor Emerita of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. Over a career spanning four decades, she served as Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs at Harvard Medical School (2008–2019) and led pediatric radiation oncology programs at Boston Children's Hospital and MGH, where she was also the founding director of both the Center for Faculty Development and the Office for Women's Careers.
An internationally recognized expert in pediatric radiation oncology and brain tumors, Dr. Tarbell was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2002. She has authored more than 300 original publications and book chapters and is co-editor of five editions of Pediatric Radiation Oncology. She served on the Children's Oncology Group Brain Tumor Committee until 2022 and has been consistently listed in Best Doctors in America.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tarbell has been a tireless advocate for faculty development, mentorship, and equity in academic medicine. These commitments are central to the story told in Radiant.
Since retiring from MGH and Harvard Medical School in 2022, she has relocated to Florida, where she continues to collaborate with colleagues at Inspire Oncology and Inspire Exercise Medicine. She is the proud mother of three children, mother in law of their three spouses, and a devoted grandmother of four. She remains active, engaged, and deeply invested in the next generation of leaders.

Smitha V . Gollamudi, MD is a retired radiation oncologist based in Washington DC. She completed her residency at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy in 1996 under the mentorship of Dr. Tarbell, and went on to build a distinguished career across several leading academic medical centers.
She served as Attending Physician and Assistant Professor at Sibley Memorial Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine in Washington, D.C. (2005–2014), and subsequently as Associate Medical Director of Oncology at the Johns Hopkins National Capital Region (2014–2018).
Earlier in her career, she held faculty and leadership positions at Monmouth Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and conducted research at Harvard University, the National Institutes of Health, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Dr. Gollamudi received her BA and her MD from Brown University. She was recognized as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian magazine for five consecutive years (2008–2012) and received the Outstanding Teaching Award at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1997.
